Did you know that 485,000 diarrhoeal deaths occur each year because of contaminated drinking water?

According to the World Health Organization, 785 million people lack basic drinking-water service, 144 million people are dependent on surface water and at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces.

GIVE LIFE..

Give Life is a Project Water initiative of ReachOut Campaigns Foundation, aimed at providing sustainable sources of portable water to 20 communities around the world. This we would achieve by working together with volunteers from these communities and sponsors like you. The selected communities are desperately in need of portable water, with individuals in many of them trekking several miles per day just to access water!

20 COMMUNITIES

A remote community located in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. Villa Hortensia is a community in dire need of clean water. As at 2015, 1.5 million people in Dominican Republic didn’t have access to clean water. In Villa Hortensia, over 500 families have to depend on Water Tankers travelling long distances to get their village for a supply they can barely afford which is also largely contaminated thereby leading to several diseases that could have been easily prevented.

The people who live here buy water from trucks and each tank costs 1 USD (approx. 51 Dominican Pesos), so in each house they have at least 4 tanks that they spend money on weekly, so the monthly average cost of a family low income household filling 4 tanks about 6 times a month would be 24 USD (1, 224 Dominican Pesos).

ReachOut Campaigns Foundation is working towards channeling water to the community through pipes laid in the roads. This way, every household can have direct access to clean water.
